ASPIRATIONS: - To join the legions. - To have his own farm and horses to train. - To gain wealth. - To gain the respect of his elder male kinsmen GENERAL PERSONALITY: Gaius was raised to respect the Gods and with a strong sense of duty to Rome. While his parents are both plebeians and it has been a long time since greatness has been on his family, the man often prays to the family Gods in the family villa outside Rome. He has a good relationship with his family, yet they always treat him as though he is a child and not a man with his own son! Yet he loves them. The man's wife died in a difficult childbirth, he moans and misses her presence and sanity when it comes to dealing with the men in his family. So far, he has been able to push aside any question of a wife but since he is not the Paterfamilias, he will have to pray that whatever wife is chosen is a worthy and kind one to his son. He is hard-working and wants to please, almost like a child who wants to show that he can do what he is asked. A trait that was encouraged in him as a child and into his adult life. Gaius is illiterate and with no desire to improve himself in that area, almost in an acceptance of this is all there is for him and all he is able to do. Due to his dominating family, it has led him to be more of a follower rather then a leader. He enjoys and looks forward to the free bread and circuses that are put on in the arena, unaware of the political reasons why they are done. Gaius is skilled at dealing with horses and enjoys working with them. Along with having a chance to serve Rome in the army, it's the only place he could imagine himself being. He doesn't have a great understanding of politics nor does he wish to. He believes the Pro-Roman propaganda and is completely proud of his country, regardless of what happens. Gaius is pro-slavery, although listens to his Uncles wisdom that an abused and overly worked slave cannot work for a long time. He is polite, but relatively cold to the majority of them. Except the few that spent a lot of time with him when he was younger. -----------------------------------------------------
APPEARANCE ----------------------------------------------------- CELEBRITY CLAIM: Channing Tatum HAIR: Dark brown, shaved close to his head. EYES: Brown BUILD: Stocky and muscular. HEIGHT: 5'8ft STYLE OF DRESS: Gaius never wears expensive fabrics to mark him as an influential man. His clothing is coarse, his tunica is a dark brown in colour with a leather belt around his waist and his feet are a sturdy pair of pero (agricultural workers). When the weather is harsher, the man wears a plain looking woolen Paenula in order to keep out the cold and breeches or Braccae during the colder months. (And gets teased as being a Northern pansy by his Uncle when he does so.) GENERAL APPEARANCE: Gaius has an upright posture from his time in the saddle. Toned muscled from frequent work and from eating well. His skin is tanned from his time in sunlight and spending the majority of his time outside. Often he smells of horse like his occupation calls for and his clothing typically has horse hair on it. At the moment, there is no sign of aging with a slump in his back or any other sign of an old man. His knees have scars from running around and playing with the boys on the nearby farms, a few childish injuries. -----------------------------------------------------
FAMILY & HISTORY ----------------------------------------------------- PARENTS: --Marcus Hostilius - 49, Alive --Gaia Hostillia, 48, Deceased SIBLINGS: N/A SPOUSE(S): --Previous Wife - Ulpia Gaia, 22, Died CHILDREN: If none, put "N/A" Gaius Hostilius Minor - 5 OTHER RELATIONS: Paternal Uncles Lucius Hostilius - Eldest Uncle - Paterfamilias - recently widowed Marcus Hostilius - Youngest Uncle - unmarried Household slaves There are more, just these are the main ones he is close to or are mentioned in the history. Vispana - Elderly female slave Helena - Household slave Falco - Farm slave Aquila - Farm slave BIOGRAPHY: Gaius was born to his parents in July, 34AD and was a source of happiness for them. After several miscarriages, the Gods had given them the blessing of a healthy son and yet, no more was to follow. The Gods gave them one child and that was it. He grew up in the company of a large extended family that shared the same domus, a place that was well-maintained and yet certainly nowhere as great as the neighbouring farms. The family wealth came in the wheat and the horses that the family bred to sell, soon gaining a reputation for quality equines. He grew up following either his Pater or Uncles around, asking questions and helping wherever he could. As he grew, he was taught to ride and was skilled at it. It proved to be more exciting for him then harvesting or planting! Gaius had a hard-working childhood, but he had time to run and play with the other boys in the area. They would run, play fight and steal fruit from some of the neighbouring farms. Unfortunately, Gaius was caught one time and Uncle Lucius put the fear of the Gods in him for behaving like an ill-bred Gaul. He never stole again. But he did play. The boy soon became a man with one of the household female slaves and regularly took her in secret to his bed at night. Gaius was worried that his Uncles would have been angry with him for using their property in that way, but they were delighted and took great pleasure in embarrassing him by talking about it. Joking at his expense while he sat their blushing. At nineteen years of age and continuing to assist in the family business. The family negotiated a match between himself and the daughter of a neighbouring farm owner, the match brought mixed wealth and connections to both the families. It was an awkward union, yet slowly happiness came between them as the pair shared a room in the domus and grew to care for each other. It was not long before she informed him that she was pregnant and the elderly slave, Vispana was told to assist the woman in the birth of Gaius' son. Who also went by the same name. In order to try to have any many children as possible, they continued to try. Unfortunately the Gods willed that it was not to be and soon he lost both his wife and child during childbirth. Due to this tragedy, he pushed himself into doing as much work as possible in order to ignore the pain of his missing wife and child. As the years passed, the pain eased a little and he spent his time being devoted to the family. Along with spending with with his son, some day he would take his place in the family business and would have to learn about it. There are times when he will make the journey back to Rome in order to sell the horses or speak with business contacts and so, his story begins.... TIMELINE: 34 AD -- Birth 42 AD -- Begins helping on the family farm 53 AD -- Marriage 54 AD -- Birth of son 55 AD -- Death of wife 59 AD -- Game start OTHER: Nein, except I am a crazy lady. ![]() |
