ILIANA
-----------------------------------------------------
THE WRITER ----------------------------------------------------- NAME/ALIAS: Lanie AGE: 26 EXPERIENCE: How long have you been RPing? OTHER CHARACTERS: I played a character here before, got sidetracked by RL, and am back with moar tiemz! CONTACT: Ask! ![]() -----------------------------------------------------
THE CHARACTER ----------------------------------------------------- NAME: Iliana DATE OF BIRTH: May 15, 41AD. 18. GENDER: Female. SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Straight. CITIZENSHIP: Non Civium, Mancipiae, Servus OCCUPATION: Body slave to Lucilla Augusta LIKES: her family, Lucilla, living in Rome, cats, fruit, being around others DISLIKES: her obnoxious brother (who is now dead), being unmarried (thus lonely), almonds, birds, being alone in general FEARS: Dying alone. That the brother she actually likes will die. That she will not see her brother Iccaous again. That her parents will somehow be disappointed with her. Birds. They make her anxious. She has no idea why. Being sent away or bought by someone else to be their slave rather than serving the Augusta. ASPIRATIONS: To one day marry and have children. To keep her position in the Augusta's household. And on the flip side, she sometimes thinks of being free one day--but then reminds herself her life is pretty good, all things considered, so it's one of those fleeting aspirational thoughts that come and go. To make her parents proud of her, through whatever means that may be. To do her job well so no one will be displeased with her. GENERAL PERSONALITY: To outsiders, those who would view her as a household slave and not give much notice to her, Iliana comes off as quiet, intelligent and docile. She does as she is told, as expected, with good cheer (most of the time). The problem is, she wears her heart on her sleeve. Though she does her duties as asked, it is obvious if she is in a bad mood or a good mood, uncaring if anyone sees her emotions or notices them. What annoys her is being asked about them, as it's her own damned business. She is like this in all her dealings with people: transparent and honest, no matter what she is doing. Some could call that a merit, some a flaw. Personally, she thinks it is a flaw and tries very hard to hide things, but it's always clear on her face what she is feeling. She's not very good at lying, either, someone who would mess it up and blurt out whatever it is they were hiding to the person they were hiding it from. Sometimes tempestuous, she must clamp down on this part of her personality thanks to being a slave, biting her lip often so she does not fly off the handle, though the people who usually irritate her tend to be her family members. Even so, she tries to keep her wits about her. While it is quite easy to make her angry, she has been working on keeping herself together instead of going to her natural inclination to fly into a rage about anything and everything. Simple things could bother the hell out of her if she has a bad day or if she just woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. If one is of the same social standing as her, or family, or friends, she will let you know if she's angry with you, unfortunately. But luckily, it fades just as soon as it ignites, though she is never sorry for it, for she is right all the time (or so she thinks). -----------------------------------------------------
APPEARANCE ----------------------------------------------------- CELEBRITY CLAIM: Rebekah Wainwright HAIR: Brown. EYES: Blue. BUILD: Average. HEIGHT: 5'. STYLE OF DRESS: Mentioned in general appearance section. ![]() GENERAL APPEARANCE: Average in build, not slight yet not heavy, there isn't anything particularly remarkable about Iliana's appearance. Some could say she was a pretty girl, although her features are not regular enough to be called anything like beautiful. Not like she cares; she doesn't put much stock into how she looks and really ignores it. Her job is to make other look good, not pay attention to short glimpses she can get of herself in water on a clear day. Her skin is pale, and when she is out in the sun, she does not tan; she burns and turns bright red. Faint freckles dot her nose and forehead from a childhood of spending time outside, a relic from those days when life seemed a little more carefree. Her lips are often set in a vague smirk, almost a smile but not quite, like she has secrets she's not telling you and enjoys knowing things others don't. Her eyes are blue and intelligent, unable to have a dull look to them. As she is not good at hiding her feelings, it's evident on her face in her expressiveness. She might not say how she's feeling, but it's obvious by looking at her or, if she's trying to school herself, taking a good look in her eyes. Her dull brown hair is often braided up and out of her face, stray strands here and there framing her square face. They are a nuisance she constantly brushes away, out of her eyes, behind her ears, but they always come back. Damn hair. Being a slave, her clothing is simple: a chiton made of white linen, long sleeves draping over her arms. Nothing interesting, nothing to bring attention to her--just the way she likes it. Under her chiton she wears her bulla, as she is still unmarried (and expects for it to be that way for awhile). As she needs to look decent enough, being a personal slave of the Augusta, she always looks clean and well cared for. -----------------------------------------------------

Refer to the linked thread above.FAMILY & HISTORY ----------------------------------------------------- PARENTS: --Father - Martialis, 43, alive --Mother - Banona, 40, alive SIBLINGS: --Brother - Doiros, dead at 20 --Brother - Iccaous, 22, alive SPOUSE(S): N/A CHILDREN: N/A OTHER RELATIONS: Master - Lucilla Augusta, Alive BIOGRAPHY: The life of a slave--especially a young female one--is not so interesting. Born to two household slaves of the Augusta eighteen years ago, during her marriage to Marcus Honorius, Iliana was the daughter of two slaves whose families hailed from Gaul. She joined two older brothers, now long since gone (one dead, the other a household accountant to a noble Roman family). As the youngest, her mother petted her a bit too much. Her father said she was spoiled and coddled with too much affection. Her mother said she was simply being a good mother. When her mistress became the Augusta, it seemed like even though Iliana and her family were simply slaves, they moved up in the world. She and her brothers got an education. Their welfare seemed more important, for whatever reason; she was glad of that, glad that for a slave, she had such a wonderful position in the grand scheme of things. She knew she was lucky to be treated so well. At the age of fourteen, the Augusta--who apparently had a liking for the young woman's forthright manner (or so Iliana would tell herself)--decided that she would stay. Iliana became her personal slave, someone to help with all sorts of tasks and manner of things from dealing with clothing to makeup to simply being something like a little companion pet to use to chat with or be entertained and sent away when the pet started getting boring. Glad of her new position, Iliana felt it put her above her only sibling. It made her better than him, although he was a man and technically put above her simply by virtue of that. Her brother passed away from a long, lingering illness that no one could figure out. No one knew what it was. He simply declined and died, wasting away, a young man at the peak of health--then brought down by fate. To be honest, she was not very moved by this, and she would freely admit it to anyone who asked. Iliana wasn't close to her brother. She was more sad for her parents' grief than harboring her own grief towards the loss. Quite frankly, in her eyes, they mourned too long...and still do. If she felt like being disrespectful she would roll her eyes when her mother would randomly start weeping. As someone who lives in the moment and privately thinks too highly of herself, it always irked her and still does. One day, she hopes that she will be able to be a married woman with children of her own, though she hopes it is far off because she's enjoying things as they are. Iliana doesn't want to rock the boat or make a fuss. She accepts her position in life, knowing there is nothing else for her, so she'd better make the best of it. And besides, she's pretty well off...for a slave. TIMELINE: 41AD - born on 15 May. 57AD - Lucilla Augusta requests young Iliana, sixteen, to be a member of her household as a personal slave. She's pretty happy about that. 58AD - Brother Doiros dies from a long, lingering illness. No one knows what it was. 59AD - Surviving brother Iccaous leaves the family, sold off to another family. Iliana is quite upset by this, considering she is close to him. OTHER: Nope. |
