Kingdoms Outside of Rome
This thread's purpose is to list the 'sovereign' kingdoms that exist outside of Rome's borders. Along with each kingdom will be the family tree of the rulers currently in-power. We'll try to keep this as up-to-date as possible. Strikethroughs mark deceased characters.
The Kingdoms of Parthia & Armenia: The Kingdoms of Parthia and Armenia were older and at one time more powerful than Rome. With a history stretching back thousands of years, well before Alexander the Great's conquests, the peoples of this land are fiercely proud and used to warfare against 'westerners'. Royal Line:
For a reference as to where the kingdoms listed above are in relation to one another, see this MAP The Kingdom of Judaea: The current Kingdom of Judaea, as it exists now, has been in existence since the end of the Third Mithridatic War (63 BC). King Herod the Great was proclaimed "King of the Jews" by the Roman Senate in 40 BC, and remained a client-kingdom until 6 AD when it was formally annexed into a province. For near thirty years it remained a standard province until Emperor Claudius named Herod Agrippa (grandson of 'the Great') King of the Jews and reinstated the province as a client kingdom. Herod Agrippa II's rule now extends over Judaea, Peraea, Galilee and Idumea. The area of the Decapolis is under Roman authority. Royal Line:
See this MAP for a better idea of the region. The Kingdom of Nabataea: Nabataea was a kingdom that existed independent of Roman rule until 106 AD when it was finally annexed. Located just south of Judaea, it straddled Sinai and Arabian Peninsulas, and shared a south-western border with Egypt. Its capital was the ancient city of Petra. The Nabateans were often hostile with the Kingdom of Judaea, and also were kin to the Kings of Osroene. Royal Line:
See this MAP for an understanding of his geographical position. The Kingdom of Osroene: Osroene (sometimes spelled "Osrhoene") was one of several kingdoms that rose from the dissolution of the Seleucid Empire (itself a successor state to Alexander the Great's Empire). This kingdom was established by a group of Nabataeans, or Arabic tribes from Northern Arabia, and lasted nearly four centuries (c.132 BC to 214) until it was finally annexed by the Roman Empire. King Ma'nu VI Ukkama (current king, b. 28) & Wife
See this MAP for an understanding of the Kingdom's location. The Bosporan Kingdom: The Bosporan Kingdom was very ancient state, located in eastern Crimea along the northern shores of what is now known as the Black Sea. Since early times it was an important land mass because of its status as the first Hellenistic state -- meaning its people were a mix of Greek settlers/traders and tribes of the steppes. Bosporus was a Roman client state, and as thus the rulers adopted the names of the Roman emperors that gave them power. Royal Line:
