REGIO II - CAELEMONTIUM

The Caelian Hill, named for an ancient Etruscan chief by the name of Caelius Vibennus, is situated in the south of Rome between the Esquiline Hill and the valley where the Via Appia runs. The great Aqua Claudia aqueduct goes through the whole hill down to the Palatine. Prior to the Imperial era the Caelian was very seldom mentioned. Under Tiberius' reign a very terrible fire burned down many of the buildings upon the hill, leaving plenty of open land for the rich to snag up. As a result, the Caelian is the site of some of the city's finest and largest villas.

FAMOUS LOCALES WITHIN REGIO II

Emporium Magnum - The Great Market:
Situated just to the side of the great Claudian Aqueduct is the newly-completed Great Market. One of the few ambitious projects of the young Darius, construction began during Claudius' reign but was halted during the crises of the early 50s. Once Darius came into power he continued construction on the area and it has only recently opened up. For those citizens with a lot to buy, it is the center of the trade-world within Rome. (Anyone seeking a slave should have their thread within this sub-forum).

Ludi Gladitorii - Gladiatorial Schools:
In anticipation to the great monument that is being planned in the open valley at the bottom of the Caelian, Darius (in his reign) sold plots of land to enterprising men who wished to own and operate gladiator schools closer to where the action will be happening. (If you wish to have a character that owns a Ludus, PM myself or Gothic and you will get your own sub-forum).

Camenae - Park of the Nymphs:
(No sub-board) In the center of the picture below are the sacred woods of the Camenae. The sacred woods was itself connected to a small park situated behind the Great Market. This was a place of relaxation and enjoyment during the day, and a place of criminal dealings once night fell and the stores of the legal market were no longer for sale.
